Statement on the Breonna Taylor Verdict announced 9-23-20

Louisville, KY

A system cannot fail those it was never meant to protect.

– W.E.B. Du Bois

Our hearts are broken today. We humbly witness and proactively acknowledge the pain of racism and the insidious effects of white supremacy in all systems. The impacts of 400 years of bad policy continues to harm Black children in our county, state and nation. This verdict is no different. We want to be clear that we think the verdict was unacceptable. “The decision yesterday was enabled by a power structure and criminal legal system that does not value Black life” (Showing Up for Racial Justice).

We are all in this together and we ALL have a role in ending systemic racism. The protestors have been downtown for over 100 days – they show grit, determination, love, and true persistence. You are seen, heard, loved, and valued. Give what you can to support them at Justice for Breonna website.

We stand with BLM and we call for the those in power to read and commit to implementing the policy changes included in the document called “A Path Forward for Louisville: You have asked how you can make a difference. Here’s our answer”  https://apathforward4lou.org/what-can-i-do/

McNary Group commits to include these recommendations in the work we do in the community.
